Demolishing the above-ground structure is only half the job. For the future building to stand firmly and safely, it is essential to extract the old building's foundation completely, re-level the soil and grade it professionally. Old, hidden concrete foundations and underground beams are a major barrier to any new engineering idea.
The Deconstruct team carries out the full cycle of below-ground demolition and ground stabilisation using an up-to-date fleet of heavy machinery.
Stages of foundation demolition and restoring the terrain
Extracting old concrete blocks and strip or monolithic foundations is a demanding physical process that changes the structure of the ground. Our company carries out the work in the following sequence:
1. Complete demolition of the foundation with heavy machinery
Heavy excavators and hydraulic breakers are used to break up and extract the underground concrete masses. The process calls for care so that nearby live utilities (water, sewerage, gas) are not damaged.
2. Backfilling and soil reclamation
Once a massive foundation has been extracted, large pits and craters are left on the site. The Deconstruct team backfills these voids with soil of a suitable grading or with inert material to prevent later uneven settlement.
3. Levelling, compaction and grading
Using special compaction equipment (plate compactors, rollers) and bulldozers, the soil is compacted layer by layer. This makes the terrain fully uniform, firm, stable and safe for any subsequent movement or construction activity.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Why can't an old foundation be left in the ground?
Old concrete breaks down over time, which creates underground voids and causes the ground to sink. It will also get in the way of installing the new project's piles or foundation.
What kind of machinery is used to grade the ground?
Vibratory rollers of various tonnages, bulldozers and graders are used, which ensure maximum ground density.
